Project #1 Reflection
1. Throughout the schematic phase I had two totally different ideas for my coffee bar. As I
started to move on to the next phase, I narrowed down what my actual concept was, and
what I wanted to portray in my actual coffee bar. Therefore, the only aspect that was most
improved was my idea for my coffee bar in general! I decided to somewhat combine all
the good things about both ideas and make my final idea the best it could possibly be.
2. The ways I incorporated active listening skills into my project was during the schematic
phase we met in a group. That group then told me some highs and lows on what ideas.
Which then led me into having other people's thoughts and opinions, so then I could
combine that data to make an amazing idea. I could probably improve on my active
listening skills when it comes to listening to other peoples questions.
3. In this project verbal communication was kind of a big thing, just because it was our first
project so making sure to ask questions to other peers and our instructor was just super
important. Knowing exactly what the assignment was asking for, etc. Even though it was
a voice recording and we didn’t go and stand up in front of a class, I still get nervous. I
would say a place for me to improve my verbal communication would be in my speaking
during a speech or a presentation.
4. During this project the way I used nonverbal communication was within my floor plan,
cross section, my 3D model and inspiration pictures. Within these I was able to show
exactly what I wanted my coffee bar to look like. More ways I can improve on this aspect
is making my designs and/or 3D models more professional looking.

1. What aspect(s) of your project were most improved since schematic design?  To what do you attribute the improvement?

2. How did you incorporate active listening skills into Project #2?  What aspect(s) of active listening could you improve upon in Project #3?

3. What aspect(s) of verbal communication were most successful for you in Project #2?  Where do you need to experience growth with your verbal communication skills?

4. How did you utilize non-verbal communication throughout this project?  How could you improve upon your non-verbal communication skills in the next two projects?

  1. I think the aspects that were most improved since my schematic design was the overall layout of the stairs. As the project was coming along, I would visually see things and come up with other ways on the spot to make the space better and more of what my client wanted.

  2. I incorporated active listening skills by communicating with my client and continuing asking him if what I was doing was what he wanted within the space. And I would take his response and fully listen to what he was saying and make changes to accommodate them. As I started to narrow down the final idea, and when I “felt” like I had all the information, I wished I would continue to check in with my client to just double check. That is something I would improve on in my next project.

  3. My verbal communication was very strong within this project. I started off by communicating with my client in person and then once we left class, I would email my client back and forth. Within those emails we would bounce back ideas on what he would like within this space.

  4. This project showed some nonverbal communication. When I was drawing up the plans, I was able to just show him what I had in mind for an idea, then to try and explain to him what I was imagining. And he did the same for me. We also sent back and forth inspiration images to get a sense of what kind of theme he was wanting.

Personal Reflection #3

1. What aspect(s) of your project were most improved since schematic design?  To what do you attribute the improvement?

2. How did you incorporate active listening skills into Project #3?  How do you feel you improved overall this semester?

3. What aspect(s) of verbal communication were most successful for you in Project #3?  Where do you need to experience growth with your verbal communication skills?

4. How did you utilize non-verbal communication throughout this project?  How could you improve upon your non-verbal communication skills in the next two projects?

  1. I think I most improved on stepping out of the box and coming up with a design that both met my client's needs and wants and also fit the atmosphere of the building that it would be located in. Honestly, I would say having a real-life client is what I would attribute this improvement to. I have been wanting to try new things and really challenge myself to design something that not only I want but something that my client would want and love. I’m trying to be a real designer. Not every client that I have will like the same style, etc. And having clients for each project really lets us students realize that and push ourselves to overcome what we might like in the space or what we feel comfortable designing and put our clients first.

  2. The ways I incorporated active listening into project #3 was by the way my client told me their wants and needs. I gave a handful of different inspiration images to get an idea of what kind of chair my client had in mind. After showing them, I listened to what they had to say and took notes. I think this improved by the way I was able to just listen and not add my opinion in the mix.

  3. I think the way I was able to talk to my client and was able to reach him if I was ever unsure of what he wanted. I would say we all can improve in the first interaction verbal communication, so I think that is where I would want to

  4. I used nonverbal communication by providing images of what my client had described to me. I think I have improved a lot since the last two projects. The way I was communicating is all ways, and I think I will continue to improve.
